Tanner Briggs: Character Analysis

The Naturals:
Tanner Briggs

Tanner Briggs is the head of the Naturals program, not much is known about his life before he became an FBI agent, except that he was possibly married to Stirling before becoming apart of the FBI. He seems to be more career-focused than Stirling, for instance he sees no problems with allowing teenagers to look into cold cases while Stirling does. However, Briggs does care for the kids as he doesn’t want them involved with active cases. Stirling and Briggs possibly divorced because of conflict in interests. Briggs began to take the twelve year old Dean for help on active cases, something that Stirling clearly didn’t agree with.

Significant Character Relations:

Veronica Stirling: Briggs was Stirling’s old partner, as well as her husband. It is revealed that they split up because of a conflict in how they do things. This is possibly because Briggs began using Dean Redding to help him on cases.

Cassie Hobbes: Briggs has a good relationship with her, he’s had talks with her regarding her mother’s disappearance. Especially after her body is discovered.

Judd Hawkins: Character Analysis

The Naturals:
Judd Hawkins

Judd Hawkins is a former marine that oversees the Naturals home in Quantico. Not much is known about his past until the second book, where the name Scarlett comes up. However, it’s not discovered who she is until the third book where it is revealed that she was an old friend of Stirling’s who was Judd’s daughter. She was one of the victims of Nightshade, the serial killer that went after the main killer in All In. Judd is targeted by him in the book, but ends up surviving with the help of The Naturals, Briggs, and Stirling. Nightshade is arrested and the truth is learned about Cassie’s mother. It is also revealed that Scarlett was a scientist with the FBI, who really shouldn’t have been killed in the first place. She shouldn’t even have been in the lab at the time. Judd is extremely protective over the kids and is against them going on active cases, he even goes along with them on the first active case that they are allowed to go on. Although that is possibly because he is their guardian. He even gets them their room originally, until Michael decides to get them into a fancier one. Something Judd doesn’t object to because he can tell that he is having a hard time.

Significant Character Relations:

Dean Redding: Dean was the first Natural to live in the house with Judd, which occurred after Judd lost Scarlett. They most likely have a closer relationship than Judd with everyone else.

Cassie Hobbes: Judd is one of the people to talk with Cassie after her mother’s body is discovered and has had several conversations with her regarding different aspects of her life.

Veronica Stirling: Stirling is an old family friend who Judd basically watched grow up because of her friendship with Scarlett. He remarks on the way the two girls would play together, always going on adventures and wanting to learn new things. Especially Scarlett.

Scarlett Hawkins: Scarlett is the late daughter of Judd who was killed by Nightshade. He doesn’t mention her much before the second book, mostly because he didn’t see any reason to tell the Naturals. Possibly because he think that they have enough on their plate as is.

Veronica Stirling: Character Analysis

The Naturals:
Veronica Stirling

Stirling first appears in the second book with the intent to shut down The Naturals program. She is clearly against the idea of using teenagers, even if they are just solving cold cases. Although, the main reason she began looking into it is because of the incident with Locke and Cassie. While originally, it seems as if she’s replacing Locke, she’s only doing it to review the program and see if it needs to be shut down or not. Unlike Locke, she doesn’t actually train Cassie and Dean with pictures. She gives them a profiling textbook. Stirling is a lot like Cassie, in the matter that she cares about other people. She cares about the kids and doesn’t want to see them get hurt. It is revealed towards the middle of the book that Stirling was one of Daniel Redding’s victims and Dean Redding assisted in her escape which led to the capture of Daniel Redding. She forces the Naturals to take the PSAT, mostly because they haven’t necessarily been getting a good education. It’s obvious that she doesn’t want them to continue on to jon the FBI, even if it is clear that they would good at it. She’s not necessarily a big part of the third book, as in nothing new is learned about her. For most of the book, her and Briggs are interviewing suspects.

                 Significant Character Relations:

Tanner Briggs: Briggs was Stirling’s old partner, as well as her husband. It is revealed that they split up because of a conflict in how they do things. This is possibly because Briggs began using Dean Redding to help him on cases.

Dean Redding: Agent Stirling was the last woman to be kidnapped by Daniel Redding (undercover) and received help from Dean who helped her escape. This led to the arrest of Daniel Redding.

Cassie Hobbes: At the beginning of the second book, Cassie thought that Stirling didn’t like her but it appears as if it was the opposite. Stirling tells her that she reminds her a lot of herself and that she is different from The Naturals when it comes to how she cares about the victims.
